Greetings Flooring Dealers!
Don’t complain about market conditions or a recession or any negative external factors around your staff…ever!
Some people will use any excuse to allow failure, and if you (the Captain of the Ship) are complaining about the “recession,” then it’s costing you productivity and sales. Guard your conversations in the workplace. Always offer solutions, not sob-stories. If someone on your team begins to bemoan the economy, the marketplace, whatever, turn the conversation in a positive direction.
But positive words alone are not enough. Too many sales meetings are full of “rah rah” but very little substance. Yes, positive, encouraging words are very important, but your team needs tools. Give them concrete things they can do RIGHT NOW to take the bull by the horns—to take ownership of their own success—and overcome a slowdown in sales.
- Increase proficiency with the Design Audit by practicing on each other
- Use Referral Request form on every job, or improve your average number of referrals if it’s already being used.
- Establish referral relationships with other businesses by using my Joint Ventures system.
- Hand written note cards to past clients—send out 5 each day.
- Follow up phone calls with prospects who leave your store without making a buying decision. This should be combined with the Shock-and-Awe campaign.
- Ambassador program (60-Day Rapid Launch)
- Hand deliver the Home Advisor each month to every business within 5 blocks of your store. Put it in white, sealed envelopes, and write the names of each employee on the envelope.
- For admin staff, teach them how to answer the phones and greet clients in a way that totally sets you apart from all the other dealers, and makes the client feel special. Use the scripts from the World Class Installation system for ideas.
- Etc.
