On a recent coaching call with my Flooring Success Systems members, I interviewed guest expert Travis Lee, President of 3D Mail Results. 3D mail (or lumpy mail) means using inserts in your letters to make them 3-Dimensional or lumpy, as opposed to sending them out as “flat” mailers. 3D Mail Results specializes in teaching businesses how to use 3D mail, and they provide the “trinkets” or inserts for you.
When you put a 3D object into the envelope, several powerful things happen:
- It creates curiosity.
- The package is virtually guaranteed to get opened.
- It creates “buzz” about your store. If you send someone a letter with a “sticky brain” inside, they will talk about it.
- Utterly sets you apart from all the other flooring stores in your area (all other businesses in your area, for that matter).
- Since the package won’t lay flat, it’s difficult (if not impossible) to stack other mail on top of it, so your letter winds up on top of the pile.
3D examples from my system: If you are a Flooring Success Systems Platinum member, you have access to a couple of very effective marketing campaign which includes a series of letters, each with a different object inside to make the package 3-Dimensional. Just last year alone our members made hundreds of thousands of dollars using these campaigns. Right after Platinum members, Greg & Angela Kyer, joined the club, they sent out the first letter of one of these campaigns to twenty open files. Within three days they had signed $10,000 worth of work, and that was before sending any of the follow up letters. Another member landed a $20k commercial job using the same campaign, and he was the highest bidder. There are many other success stories.
I’ve been using 3D mailers for years to rapidly gain new clients and quickly establish Joint Venture relationships.
In summary, 3D mail works and you should incorporate it as part of your overall marketing mix.
